I'm a vagabond river rat born on a house boat on the Wabash thats where my daddy taught me how to swim, I know that mighty rivers every twist and bend.
The Ohio (River) aint no strange neighborhood. I know that river like, Jimmy Driftwood knows the words. and i swam every great lake at least once. I swim half the Mississippi and then I stop for lunch
Catch a mess of that:
Blackened Catfish; Biscuits and Gravy; and Mulberry Cobbler with all the fixin's too; we can all go...
Crack a couple cold beers; take a hit of papaws smoke; and watch us some Dolly Parton on a Sunday afternoon
And i'll ford the mighty rivers to the GREAT FLAT HEAD and PEND OREILLE, where I've got a big'ole place, and everything's my pace, and there aint no law to tell me what to do.
Now when i want to see a moving picture show, I dance a jig and sing for money on the street. And its not embarrassing because I make people smile, and every dollar bill you give me makes it worth my while.
And all the river rats back home say i'm crazy to make the trek. But they're happy I'm happy and I've got everyone's respect. And they also write that I'm welcome home any time I feel, if i'm just passing through or need a home cook meal....
Cook a mess of that:
Blackened Catfish; Biscuits and Gravy; and Maulberry Cobbler with all the fixin's too; we can all go...
Crack a couple cold beers; take a hit of papaws smoke; and watch us some Dolly Parton on a Sunday afternoon
And now its time i settle down and build my float, a crude watercraft the DNR will quote. She'll pass inspection with all necessities, life jackets, fire buckets, and a captains hat for me. And all the river rats back home say that i will return soon, and back home again in Indiana we will croon. while landing heavenly bounty off of our trot lines, strung 'cross the Wabash River and dancing in moon light.
Catch a mess of that:
Blackened Catfish; Biscuits and Gravy; and Maulberry Cobbler with all the fixin's too; we can all go...
Crack a couple cold beers; take a hit of papaws smoke; and watch us some Dolly Parton on a Sunday afternoon
Back home again in Indiana and it seems that I can see
The gleaming candle light still shining bright
Through the sycamores for me
The new mowed hay sends all its fragrance through the fields i used to roam
When i dream about the moon light on the Wabash, then i'm longing for my Indiana home
